A Dhaka court on Wednesday asked BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to appear before it on February 27 in connection with 10 cases including one filed for questioning the number of martyrs.

Judge Md Kamrul Hossain Molla of the Dhaka’s Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court set the date after accepting separate time petitions submitted by Md Sanaullah Miah, counsel of the former prime minister.

Sanaullah submitted the petitions before the court mentioning that his client could not appear before the court due to her illness.

On January 9, the same court fixed Wednesday for charge framing hearing in the cases.

The 10 cases include a sedition case filed by Supreme Court lawyer Momtaz Uddin Ahmad Mehedi against Khaleda on January 25 last year for her remarks on the number of Liberation War martyrs.

Eight cases were filed with Darussalam police station while another filed with Jatrabari police station on charges of inciting violence during the BNP-lead alliance’s blockade and hartal programme in January and February, 2015.
