With an aim to inspire people to innovate, disrupt and do things differently, StartupBashBD kicked off yesterday at the Banani office of NewsCred, brining successful entrepreneurs and the people who are passionate about startups under one roof.
StartupBash is a tribute to the Global Entrepreneurship Week that has been launched for the first time in Bangladesh. Because it is an invite only event rather than a paid one, the participants attending it were chosen by a three-step selection process.
From hundreds of applications received from participators, volunteers and ambassadors, the most enthusiastic applicants were chosen to be part of the six-day event. Each day will have different entrepreneurs, professionals and audience interacting with each other in order to instigate the initiative for entrepreneurship.
On the first day of this week long event, StartupBash opened its doors at 5.00 PM with an approximately half hour long networking session between entrepreneurs and the participants as an attempt to build a community by making connections to create the atmosphere for startups.
After the participants spent some time getting to know the people around them, MK Aaref, CEO, EMK Centre, in his keynote speech to the audience encouraged the building of the startup community by saying, “build and they will come.”
Followed by this, several interactive sessions took place where guest speakers and the organisers shared their insights about entrepreneurship, effectiveness of startup communities and measuring success of entrepreneurs. After the guest speakers and organisers gave their opinions, participants bombarded the entrepreneurs with their questions and opinions about embarking on their entrepreneurial journey.
The guest speakers for the day were MK Aaref - CEO, EMK Center, Toby Glucksman, U.S. Embassy Dhaka’s Deputy Political and Economic Counselor and Economic Chief, Md. Sabur Khan, President, DCCI and Pial Islam, Managing Partner, Pi Strategy Consulting.
After the end of all the sessions, scrumptious dinner was served keeping in mind the winter weather in the offing. Also during the programme, snacks were served at the lounge.
