Alfu Bahini chief killed in Magura 'gunfight'

The leader of the outlawed group Alfu Bahini has been killed in a “gunfight” with police in Rautara School area under the Sadar upazila in Magura.

Deceased Alfu was the chief of the outlawed group. He was the son of Lokman Biswas of Paka Kharda village.

Magura Assistant Police Super Shudarshan Kumar Roy said Alfu and his associates were preparing for a robbery in Rautara School area early Monday.

He said: “Acting on a tip off, police went to the spot around 2:30am. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, Alfu and his associates opened fire at the police."

Police retaliated with gun shots that left Alfu bullet-wounded. He died while being under treatment at Magura Sadar Hospital.

Meanwhile, two police officials were also injured in the “gunfight.”

The police official said Alfu was accused in a series of cases including murder, robbery, arms and rape.

He said a shooter gun and two bullets were recovered from the spot.
