The country's inflation has declined in May, helped by falling prices of both food and non-food items, according to official data released on Monday.

Month-to-month inflation stood at 5.45% in May, slightly down from 5.61% in April, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) data shows.

During the period, food inflation dropped to 3.81% from 3.84% and non-food inflation declined to 7.92% from 8.34%.

“Declining prices of both food and non-food items has helped ease inflation in the last month,” said Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal while releasing the monthly consumer price index (CPI) at the NEC conference room.
