The Rajinikanth-starrer much-hyped gangster drama 'Kabali' has earned a whooping Rs250 crore on they day it was released, the makers claim.
Kabali was released on Friday all over the world amid much fan frenzy.
It is estimated to have earned Rs100 crore from Tamil Nadu. Thousands of euphoric fans had lined outside cinema halls for hours before the movie's screening and several companies declared holidays for their employees to watch the movie.
“In India, the film has earned Rs250 crore, which includes Rs100 crore from Tamil Nadu and Rs150 crore from places outside the state in India,” read a statement from the makers, reports the Hindustan Times.
Kabali was released in approximately 8,000-10,000 screens all over the world, which includes 480 screens in the US, 490 in Malaysia and above 500 in Gulf countries.
The film has also been released in UK, Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Denmark, Holland, Sweden, South Africa and Nigeria.
Producer Kalaipuli S Thanu said the collection was the best an Indian actor has ever had.
Kabali marks the return of superstar Rajinikanth, one of Asia's highest paid actors, to the screen since 2014, where he plays an aged gangster who battles with his enemies in an effort to protect his family and business.
Made on a budget of 1 billion rupees, the movie has already raked in at least 400 million rupees, through brand tie-ups, according to media reports.
“It has earned approximately Rs100 crore worldwide,” the statement added.
Directed by Pa Ranjith, the film also stars Radhika Apte, Dhanshika and Kalaiarasan in key roles.
“It shows that there is only one superstar and that is Rajinikanth,” producer Thanu said.
