The Mac Prep + Prime Base Visage is marketed as a lightweight gel-lotion that is meant to even out your skin, remove any signs of redness while also giving you a radiant glow. In other words, it's basically a primer, and a primer is to make-up what lingerie is to your figure – it's meant to lay the basic foundation of your overall look to conceal, smoothen and hold things in place.
With the advent of face primers, make-up fanatics are usually more inclined towards investing in a high end primer such as the Smashbox Photofinish (priced at Tk4,000+) or even Benefit's Porefessional, with Mac's Prep + Prime not garnering as much positive reviews as the brand name usually does.
Beautifully packaged (much like any other Mac product), the Prep + Prime comes in a dispenser bottle. One pump is more than enough to cover your face, with the application being smooth and creamy, settling into the skin within minutes. Interestingly, the primer isn't clear, but rather a semi-thick white cream that leaves a glittery finish on your skin.
While this may seem alarming, once you've put your foundation on, the glittery bits are gone. Foundation goes on even smoother, and any additional touches to your face made easier since the primer allows more mobility to each product you put on your face. If you're using contouring powders or creams, it blends seamlessly once the primer is used underneath.
Foundation also lasts longer and has a more seamless, airbrushed finish. The only disappointment with this is that while it is good, there are better primers within the same price range. When compared to the Smashbox Photofinish primer, both primers are infinitely different, with Smashbox beating Mac at its own game. As far as longevity, smoothness and finish are concerned, Smashbox comes out as a 10/10, while Mac a measly 8/10 compared to it. While it's a good product nevertheless, it will not inspire a second purchase, especially if you've tried Smashbox or Professional.
