Construction worker killed in Chittagong fire

A construction worker has been killed in a fire that broke out while he was sleeping at a thatched house of a construction company in Chittagong city’s Khulshi area early Thursday.

The deceased is Md Mazharul Islam, 20, son of Nurul Islam, hailing from Companiganj of Noakhali district, according to Fire Service and police.

Officials at Agrabad Headquarters of Fire Service and Civil Defense said the fire broke out in the tin-shed thatched house of of Hakim and Sons Company at Khulshi in Chittagong city around 2am and soon spread the whole house.

“At that time, Mazhar was burned alive as he was sleeping inside the house during the fire,” Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nizam Uddin of Khulshi Police Station said to theDhaka Tribune.

Being informed, fire fighters Agrabad Fire Station rushed to the spot and douse the fire after an hour of hectic efforts, police said quoting fire service personnel.

“His body was totally charred in the fire while the body was recovered from the spot after dousing blaze. The body of the deceased was handed over to his father after the autopsy in Chittagong Medical College Hospital ,” said the OC.

A general dairy was filed in the incident.
