A couple and their daughter were killed when a freight train smashed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Shasangachha rail crossing in Comilla on Wednesday morning.
The deceased were Farid Munsi, 70, his wife Peyara Begum, 55, and their daughter Akhi Akter, 16, residents of Gazaria village in Debidwar upazila of the district.
Locals said the Dhaka-bound train coming from Chittagong rammed into the auto-rickshaw in the rail crossing near Comilla Railway Station around 6:45 am, leaving the four injured, said the railway police outpost on-duty officer Md Ismail Hossain Siraji.
Injured Farid’s daughter Akhi Akter, 16, and nephew auto-rickshaw driver Rakibul, 30, were admitted to Comilla Medical College Hospital. Akhi died at the hospital.
Farid was declared dead around 8:30 am after he was taken to the hospital and his wife around 10 am.
The rail crossing gateman Mizanur Rahman said the accident took place when the auto-rickshaw driver tried to cross the rail line ignoring his signal and whistle of the train.
