Internet sensation ‘chaiwala’ lands modelling gig

In this day and age, “five minutes of internet fame” can change someone’s life forever. The dashing Arshad Ali, Islamabad’s blue-eyed ‘chaiwala’ (tea-seller), has landed a modelling gig after an Instagram image of him created sensation on the internet.

A Facebook post on Wednesday revealed that Arshad will now work as a model for Pakistani apparel brand Fitin.pk. As the brand puts it: “Chai wala is not more chai wala now he is fashion wala!” According to NDTV, quoting a Pakistani TV news channel, Arshad, who has 17 siblings, is overwhelmed yet happy with the attention he's getting. He also told the TV that between 30-50 women have had their picture taken with him.

It all started when an Islamabad-based photographer Jiah Ali spotted Arshad Khan during a photo walk around the city's Sunday Bazaar. She clicked his picture and shared it on Instagram on October 14. Little did she know that the photo would go insanely viral within four or five days. The picture made its way onto Twitter, as pictures do, and Arshad was the top trending topic in Pakistan on Monday. On public demand, Jiah shared more pictures from her photo walk.
