A trafficked Bangladeshi on Wednesday died at Kau Ling Chung on Lantau Island in Hong Kong, after he suffered injuries from a fall and was stranded in heavy rain with his companions.
The deceased 38-year-old was among a group of ten men who had landed on a beach of the island on Tuesday, reported EJ Insight.
According to sources, though the group was successfully smuggled to Hong Kong by boat, the smugglers left them without any food or provisions.
Subsequently, the Bangladeshi suffered injuries to his nose and forehead when he fell while trying to climb a steep cliff.
The group were then forced to spend the night with empty stomachs, and had no shelter when it began to rain at about 4am on Wednesday.
After the aspiring migrants attempted to continue towards the city at 9am in the morning, the Bangladeshi lost consciousness.
Police rescued the group after the Bangladeshi's companions called for help by phone at 9:16am. Though the Bangladeshi was rushed to North Lantau Hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The other nine members of the group were taken to the local police station for questioning.
