An unusual friendship

One lives on land and other in water. They first met 25 years ago at the Tateyama Bay in Japan. It was just another dive for Hiroyuki Arakawa who had been serving as the de facto caretaker of underwater Shinto shrine. It was here that he first met Yoriko, an Asian sheepshead wrasse, for the first time, reports Atlas Obscura. As time went by, the two developed an unusual lifelong friendship. And now, whenever Arakawa visits the shrine, he just knocks on a piece of metal and voila, Yoriko rushes over. In a video posted on YouTube, Arakawa is seen planting kisses on Yoriko. A group of fishermen have reportedly developed bonds with local whale sharks in Oslob in the Philippines – an unlikely close friendship that was previously thought impossible.
