Update : 02 Jan 2018, 01:15 AM
The creator of popular photography and storytelling blog Humans of New York (HONY), Brandon Stanton, will visit Dhaka this month as part of a longer trip. Apart from Bangladesh, Stanton will visit Manila in the Philippines during his trip as part of one of the most popular photography projects on the internet. In a post on the official HONY page on Facebook, Stanton on Monday announced: “I'm taking a trip in January, and am planning to swing through Dhaka for a few days around the week of the 22nd.” He also sought help from Bangladeshis in his search for an interpreter to help with interviews and then went on to describe the required qualities. He also added the contact details for interested interpreters. After it was launched in 2010, Humans of New York had received praise from around the world on both social and news media for its unique way of sharing the stories of the people living in the Big Apple through portraits, quotes and interviews. Stanton also plans to share the stories people of Dhaka, as he wrote on Monday’s Facebook post: “...if you know a special person in Dhaka who is doing amazing work and who's story needs to be told, let me know about them!” He has the same plans for Manila and its citizens, according to a similar post on HONY page. Stanton had studied history at the University of Georgia and worked as a bond trader in Chicago for a while. After losing the job, he decided to pursue photography and later started the blog. Over the last seven years, HONY developed more than 20 million followers across several social media platforms. “Humans of New York began as a photography project in 2010. The initial goal was to photograph 10,000 New Yorkers on the street, and create an exhaustive catalogue of the city’s inhabitants," Stanton wrote on the website. He said: “Somewhere along the way, I began to interview my subjects in addition to photographing them. And alongside their portraits, I'd include quotes and short stories from their lives. Taken together, these portraits and captions became the subject of a vibrant blog.” HONY has also expanded to feature stories from over 20 different countries over the last five years. His trips to Bangladesh and the Philippines are also part of that project. Stanton is the author of two No 1 New York Times bestsellers, “Humans of New York” (2013) and “Humans of New York: Stories” (2015) and the children’s book bestseller “Little Humans” (2014).
