A vegetarian lifestyle, for the environment and for your health
For all the vegetarians out there, today is the day to globally celebrate their will and compassion to change for a healthy way of life.
Every year, October 1 is celebrated to bring awareness of the ethical, environmental, health and humanitarian benefits of vegetarian lifestyle.
The celebration was established by the North American Vegetarian Society in 1977 and endorsed by the International Vegetarian Union in 1978.
Bangladesh is a country where the majority find it difficult to consume meat for its expensive pricing. Many people maintain a vegetarian diet not out of choice, but necessity.
But for those who can afford the protein, there is also the high rate of wasting food which remains a concern.
A vegetarian lifestyle leads to a healthier life as it prevents many severe diseases which meat lovers are more prone to. It is also significantly cheaper than a meat-intensive lifestyle.
On this day, let us pledge for a greener future by consuming more vegetables than meat and enjoy a more sustainable life.
So, go make yourself a salad bowl with whatever vegetables are there in the refrigerator, although we strongly advise using fresh ingredients.
