UK police on the hunt for ‘Ross Geller’ lookalike

The ‘Friends’ star responded humorously to the turn of events

Update : 25 Oct 2018, 09:58 PM

The Blackpool Police Department in England posted security footage of a man wanted for questioning on Tuesday via Facebook. The man appears to be walking away with a handful of cans and is wanted by the English police “in relation to a theft at a Blackpool restaurant.”

That sounds normal enough except the wanted man looks almost exactly like Ross Geller from the hit sitcom “Friends.”

The internet did not miss the opportunity to make as many “Friends” references as humanly possible. Some people alleged that the man may have been stealing the goods he appeared to be walking away with, other alleged that the man is, in fact, David Schwimmer, who portrayed Ross Geller through 10 seasons.

One wrote: “Shouldn’t he be at work … or is he on a break?” Another posted: “I bet he was shouting ‘PIVOT’ as he picked those beers up.”

[Editor's Note: The 'PIVOT' joke is an all-time favorite]

Although Blackpool Police took down the original post after it went viral, the jokes did not stop flying.

On Wednesday, David Schwimmer addressed the issue with a humorous video declaring his innocence.

The police already made clear that the suspect was not Schwimmer, stating: “Thank you to everyone for your speedy responses. We have investigated this matter thoroughly and have confirmed that David Schwimmer was in America on this date. We’re so sorry it has to be this way.”
