Police trace lost child's family using Facebook

Update : 02 Mar 2017, 12:48 AM
Dhaka Metropolitan Police have reunited a lost child with his family after tracing them with the help of social networking site Facebook. Four-year-old Mehedi became lost when his mother and aunt brought him to the capital's Hatirjheel area to celebrate Pohela Boishakh. Police officials in Hatirjheel found the boy alone and crying, looking for his parents. Soon after Mehedi was found, DMP Deputy Commissioner (Gulshan Zone) Mostaque Ahamed posted a status on Facebook asking people to help them in finding Mehedi's parents. Mostaque's post was shared by thousands, and within hours Mehedi's mother was located. The DMP deputy commissioner posted another update around 11pm Thursday, saying the child has been safely returned to his mother and aunt. In the post, Mostaque wrote that the joint effort of police and Facebook users helped them return the child to his family. “We believe this is the best job we have done. The feeling was far more than something heavenly. We police and FB friends always again will be for the nation,” he wrote. The police official also thanked Facebook users for sharing his post over 3,500 times to spread the word.
