PM pays homage to Promod Mankin

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday paid homage to late state minister for social welfare Promod Mankin by placing wreaths on his coffin at South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad, where his body was kept for his colleagues to pay last respect. She also placed another wreath on behalf of the Awami League as the party chief, reported UNB. The prime minister prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and talked to the family members of the deceased leader, conveying her condolence and sympathy to them. On behalf of President Abdul Hamid, his military secretary placed wreaths on Mankin's coffin. Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Chief Whip ASM Firoz, whip of Jatiya Sangsad, Opposition Whip Mohammad Selim, on behalf of the leader of the opposition, placed wreaths on Mankin’s coffin as well. Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, State Minister for Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed, senior Awami League leaders Dr Dipu Moni, Dr Hasan Mahmud, Faruk Khan, Abdus Sobhan Golap, parliament members and a large number of party leaders, workers, well-wishers, admirers and parliament staff were present at the time as well. Later, the elderly leader was given a guard of honour. Colleagues took part in the reminiscence on his life and work. Later, Arch Bishop Patrick D Rozario conducted a prayer seeking eternal peace for the late leader. Mankin died of cancer at the age of 77 while undergoing treatment at a hospital in India. He was elected as parliament member three times from Mymensingh 1 constituency.
