Government employees will get a nine-day holiday this year to celebrate the Eid-ul-Fitr.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has approved leave for July 4 by applying her administrative power,” a Cabinet division official told the Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday.
The Eid will likely be celebrated on July 6 or 7 depending on moon sighting.
Now, with the day after the Shab-e-Qadr declared holiday, government offices will remain close from July 1 to July 9.
The Sab-e-Qadr falls on July 3, Monday.
However, the government employees will have to work on Saturday, July 16, to make up for the July 4 holiday.
