Foysal Ahmed, son of Fazlul Karim, a resident of the area, was the president of Balaishpur ward 3 unit of the ruling party Awami League.
Rina Begum, sister-in-law of the deceased, told the Dhaka Tribune that Foysal went out of his residence around 8pm and later they were informed that he had been killed.
Police said a gang of miscreants swopped on Foysal near his house around 11pm while he was retuning home.
They first hacked him indiscriminately and later shot him, leaving him dead on the spot.
Fazlul Karim, father of the deceased, alleged that local hoodlum Laden Masun and his men had killed his son, as there had been a long-standing dispute between them.
Superintendent of Police Md Jonayed Kawsar said Foysal was a member of Laden group. Later, he left the gang and since then he had a dispute with group.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
