After a year and a half in Bangladesh, Spanish freelance journalist Igor Barbero is heading home.
In the space of 18 months, the native of Bilbao covered most of the major stories affecting the country – from traffic to terrorism.
Barbero leaves a moving record of his experiences in this montage of photographs that includes cityscape, countryside, reportage of the Shahbagh movement and personal memories of Holey Bakery.
He writes: "With this farewell video, 'A glimpse of my Bangladesh' I tried to highlight the diversity of a small but great country in which I have experienced very insightful moments. The pictures are mainly part of stories I have covered during the last months.
“From scenes at a shooting for an Ittadi show to the situation in the powerful garments industry, the massive population movements during Eid or the bucolic beauty of rural Bangladesh, I have portrayed some of the characters I had the chance to get to know, such as bloggers, activists, religious leaders, politicians, merchants and artists.”
Barbero began visiting Bangladesh in 2013, before settling here in 2015. He has lived and worked in South Asia since 2008.
About Bangladesh, he says: “People in Bangladesh open their heart to you. They are extremely resilient and have high esteem for their country. No doubt this nation will see better moments again.
“Abar dekha hobe!”
