He said: “We have failed discipline drivers and the transportation sector in general. As minister I can not avoid my responsibility in this regard.”
The minister made the statement at a programme held at Dhaka Reporters Unity yesterday.
“People are being killed on the roads by reckless driving during the Eid vacation due to our failure to maintain discipled driving on the roads,” he added.
The minister also said: “if we will train our drivers properly, it is possible to reduce fifty percent of the road accidents.”
He said that the government is working to repair 154 black spot on the road under a project with a budget of Tk165 crore.
The project is already underway with 50% of the work being completed and the rest would be finished by the end of the year which will help to reduce the number of road accidents.
On the subject of Padma bridge Quader said that the construction of the multi-purpose bridge is on schedule and he hopes to open the bridge to the public by December 2018.
