Khadiza to go under another surgery
Physicians treating Khadiza Akhter Nargis, hacked by a Bangladesh Chhatra League leader in Sylhet on October 3, on Saturday said she has to go under another surgery. While updating the Dhaka Tribune about Khadiza's condition, Mirza Nazim Uddin, assistant Medical Director of Square Hospital, told the Dhaka Tribune that the surgery is required since her injuries are still in perilous condition. He said: “Khadiza is improving slowly. If her conditions get stable we would go for another surgery.” While answering a query on the success ratio of the next surgery, he said: “There is no certainty of any surgery and injuries are risky in this case. We will try our best for the preeminent outcome.” Khadiza's uncle Abdul Quddus said doctors have already informed the family about the surgery. He said: “Doctors briefed us about recent condition of Khadiza and told us about the surgery and they will do it after being assured that she is stable for surgery. We are afraid of the surgery as she might need life support again.” Abdul Quddus also informed Dhaka Tribune that according to doctors Khadiza is responding much better than previous days but she does not recognise anybody. Doctors said she need two weeks more to be fully conscious, he added.

'Justice will be swift'

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan has said that stern actions will be taken against the culprit who attacked college student Khadiza. "Not only the charge-sheet but also the trial will be held quickly," he said while addressing a function as the chief guest at University of Asia Pacific in Dhaka. The minister said the government has already taken necessary action against the culprit and to this end the law enforcement agencies arrested him and took confessional statement. "There is no room for any criminal or terrorist in the soil of Bangladesh. You would see justice will be ensured quickly," Khan said. Khadiza, 23, an honours second-year student at Sylhet Government Women’s College, was attacked on October 3  evening by Badrul Alam, fourth-year economics student at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) and a leader of Chhatra League’s SUST wing, while she was on her way back home after taking an exam at Sylhet MC College exam centre. Locals rescued severely wounded Khadiza and took her to Osmani Medical College Hospital, while others gave Badrul a good beating before handing him over to Shah Paran police station. The victim was later transferred to Square Hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday where she underwent surgery and is currently on life support. Doctors put her in 72 hours of observation and said she had about 10% chance of survival.
