College girl commits suicide in Rajshahi

A college girl allegedly hanged herself from a ceiling fan at Salma Khan Women’s Hostel in the city’s Barnali area on Thursday night, reports UNB. The deceased is identified as Mahbuba Islam Munni, 17, a first year student of Rajshahi Masjid Mission School and College and daughter of Manirul Islam of Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district. Quoting hostel owner Bazlur Rahman, police said Munni was the boarder a single bedroom of the private dormitory. He said Habiba, a friend of Munni, knocked on her door around 9 pm. As she got no response from Munni, Habiba peeped into her room through its window only to see she was hanging from the ceiling fan with a scarf. The hostel authorities then informed the police about it who later recovered the body breaking open the door around 10:30 pm. The body was sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Shahadat Hossain, a sub-inspector of Boalia Police Station.
