Court for report on bribery case against Shyamal Kanti

Update : 28 Oct 2016, 01:21 AM
According to sources, the court led by Judicial Magistrate Mehedi Hasan passed the order in presence of Shyamal Kanti. Advocate Siddiqur Rahman said the case was filed by English teacher Morsheda Begum on July 14, accusing Shyamal of taking a bribe of Tk1.35 lakh on giving false promises of ensuring to enlist her for the monthly pay order. On May 13, Shyamal was physically assaulted by a mob over allegations that he made derogatory comments about religion while beating a student. Salim Osman, Jatiya Party lawmaker from Narayanganj-5, was then seen making Shyamal hold his ears and do squats in public, sparking outrage across the country. The headmaster went on a seven day leave from July 12 for eye treatment. The school managing committee also suspended him when he was on the leave. Besides the bribery case, Shyamal was accused of another two cases. Of them, one was filed by one Rina Begum accusing him of beating her son Rifat Hassan, a student of the School. The other was filed by a local of Kalyandi, Samchhul Haque Samchhu, accusing the headmaster of making derogatory comments about religion and hurting religious sentiments. Later, the High Court intervention came as university teachers joined the protest calling the incident the “highest form of savagery” while angry posts flooded the Facebook with scores of protesters launching a “sorry sir” campaign. The protesters changed their profile pictures on the social network websites with photos in which they were seen holding their own ears with the “sorry sir” caption in a show of solidarity with the headmaster. An education ministry probe committee found no evidence that Shyamal Kanti had hurt anyone’s religious sentiment though, on this allegation. A three-member committee also termed illegal the decision of the school managing committee to suspend Shyamal  Kanti. The ministry reinstated him following the probe body recommendation. Later, the court also rejected appeals to file two cases against Shyamal Kanti.
