Hindus foil fresh attack bid in Nasirnagar

Update : 05 Nov 2016, 03:06 PM
The attack bid on Rishipara came on Saturday morning, amid ongoing tension following recent attacks on Hindus and temples in the area, Dhaka Tribune’s Adil Sakhawat and Kamrul Hasan reported from the spot. Witnesses described the attackers as youths aged around 20 years, who fled by a boat facing resistance from the locals. They said the attackers fled the scene by a boat. Before the morning's attack bid, Rishipara residents said brick-bats were hurled at their homes on early Saturday. Nasirnagar police station officer-in-charge Md Abu Zafar said: “We have heard about the attack bid. The attackers fled the scene before our teams reached the spot.” On October 30, a mob attacked Hindu temples and houses over a defamatory Facebook post allegedly made by a Hindu fisherman. The ruling Awami League suspended three of its Nasirnagar unit leaders for their involvement in the attacks. Amid the tension, unidentified criminals set ablaze six more Hindu houses in the upazila on Friday. Police have so far detained 43 people over the attacks.
