Writ seeks explanation on steps against Nasirnagar attackers

Update : 06 Nov 2016, 02:03 PM
Rights organisation Ain O Salish Kendra filed the petition on Sunday afternoon. The writ pleaded the court to issue a rule asking why the failure to protect Nasirnagar Hindus and their temples and houses should not be declared illegal. It also sought the High Court’s directives upon the government to ensure security of the minority people across Bangladesh. The petitioner pleaded to the court asking it to order the authorities concerned to explain under which authority the Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Officer-in-Charge of Nasirnagar addressed a rally before the attack in Brahmanbaria. A mob vandalised at least 10 temples and ransacked hundreds of houses belonging to the Hindus on Oct 30 over an alleged defamatory Facebook post by a Hindu youth. More than 100 people were injured in the attack which the victims blamed on local influential people. The ruling Awami League suspended three of its Nasirnagar unit leaders for their involvement.
