
Khadiza Akter Nargis, a second-year honours student at Sylhet Government Women's College, was hacked with a machete on the MC College campus in broad daylight on October 3. The 23-year-old survived the attack, despite receiving severe head injuries.
BCL Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) unit leader Badrul Alam is the only one accused in the case, after Shahporan police station SI and Investigating Officer Harun-or Rashid placed the charge sheet before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Abdul Hannan's court on Tuesday morning.
In a press briefing, Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Sadar Dakkhin) Zedan Al-Musa said the attempted murder had been closely investigated and a total of 36 people made witnesses in the 151-page charge sheet.
The lawsuit's litigant and also Khadiza's paternal uncle Abdul Kuddus expressed satisfaction at the development.
After the attack, Khadiza was rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital and then to Square Hospitals in Dhaka when her condition began to deteriorate. She was placed on life support for a week and received her third bout of surgery on November 7, when doctors operated on her left hand, left leg and skull.
