Ramna police yesterday submitted the charge sheet against youth Obaidul Khan, a cutting master of Baishakhi Ladies Tailors at Eastern Mollika Shopping Mall on Elephant Road, in a case filed for killing Suraiya Akther Risha, a Class VIII student of Willes Little Flower School and College in the capital.
Investigation officer of the case, Ramna Model Police Station officer-in-charge (investigation) Md Ali Hossain, after completion of the investigation, pressed the charges under Section 302 of the penal code, to the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s (CMM) court yesterday.
The IO also mentioned names of 26 persons as prosecution witnesses in the charge sheet.
General Recording Officer (GRO) of the CMM court sub-inspector Md Mizanur Rahman yesterday told Dhaka Tribune that the charge sheet ‘had been sent to Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikdar for cognizance’.
The court set November 27 to decide whether it will accept the charges or not in the case.
Mentionable, on August 24, victim’s mother Tania Hossain filed the case against Obaidul under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act-2000 (Amendment 2003) and under section of 324/326 and 307 of penal code with the Ramna Model Police Station.
Later the case was turned into a murder case after critically injured Risha died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on August 28.
According to the case statement, Suraiya Akhter Risha, 14, daughter of businessman Md Ramzan Ali, a resident of Bangshal in old Dhaka, was stabbed by her stalker Obaidul in broad daylight on a foot-over bridge adjacent to her school on August 24. She succumbed to her injuries at DMCH.
The complainant also alleged that a few months ago Risha went to Baishakhi tailors, where Obaidul worked, to make a cloth. She gave her mobile phone number to Obaidul for communicating after the dress is made. But Obaidul getting the phone number started stalking and harassing Risha over the phone. He reportedly proposed to the school girl, and being refused, decided to stab her as punishment.
