Attack on Khadiza: 17 witnesses testify in court
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Saifuzzaman Hiru recorded the testimonies, including that of the victim’s uncle and plaintiff of the case Abdul Kuddus, and the principal and vice-principal of MC College, on Monday. The sole accused in the case Badrul Alam, a suspended leader of BCL’s Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) unit, was present in the court during the recordings of the depositions. He was produced before the court under strict police protection. The court fixed December 11 to record statements of rest of the 19 witnesses, said Assistant Public Prosecutor of the court Mahfuzur Rahman. Khadiza, 23, daughter of Mashuk Miah of Biswanath upazila and a student of Sylhet Govt Women’s College, was stabbed repeatedly by Badrul on her way home from examination on October 3. Khadiza was rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital soon after the incident and later was treated in Dhaka's Sqaure Hospital. Court accepted the charge sheet on November 15 after a hearing on the accusation.
