He urged the countrymen to be united like 1971 for the rest of the journey when only 7.5 crore people, being united, snatched the glorious independence.
The veteran lawyer was talking to the Dhaka Tribune on Friday noon after paying homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Monument in Savar.
Dr Kamal told the Dhaka Tribune: “We have come here to show respect to the martyrs but what did the martyrs dream for the nation? Were their dreams realised? We have to devote ourselves to fulfil their dreams.”
He said even 45 years of liberation have not stymied the ups and downs that have plagued the country. Many pro-liberation individuals including Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were killed on the journey but Bangladesh never gave in.
“The countrymen have always shown their courage and outshone the anti-liberation forces through various movements and legal fights.”
He said: “We fought our liberation war and achieved victory with some 7.5crore people. Why would we feel weak now with 17crore? All we have to do is unite and then you would see how rapidly the country moves forward.”
He suggested that the key persons of the anti-liberation forces during the liberation war should be identified and tried as trying all of them might be impossible. He also asked to consider public opinion about how long the trial should continue, when asked about the war criminals and their trial issues.
