She fainted seeing Shimul’s body. The locals quickly took her to Shajadpur Health Complex where she was announced dead by the duty doctors.
Rokeya died of a cardiac attack, Shahjadpur police station Sub-Inspector Kangkan Bishwas told the Dhaka Tribune.
Shimul was brought up by Rokeya like her own son since childhood, after his father Rahmat Ullah’s early death.

Rokeya was Shimul’s guardian till the completion of his education. As Shimul had no wealth of his own, his grandmother had given him 4% of her homestead and used to live with him.
Shimul was shot in the head by the Shahjadpur municipality mayor during a clash between two groups of the ruling Awami League on Thursday. He died while being shifted to Dhaka from Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital the following day.
