Hundreds of residents of the recently dissolved enclave Dasiarchhora in Phulbari upazila of Kurigram are observing International Mother Language Day amid much fanfare and enthusiasm.
They paid tributes to the language martyrs by placing floral wreaths at the newly built Shaheed Minar near Kalirhat Bazar in Dasiarchhora.
Earlier in the morning, Phulbari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Devendranath Urao inaugurated the Shaheed Minar.
Students of Dasiarchhora Samannaypara School said last year they observed the day by building a makeshift Shaheed Minar with banana trees and bamboo canes on their school premises.
On August 1, 2015, Bangladesh received 111 enclaves including Dasiarchhora, formerly Indian land inside its own boundary, with 52,000 people, through the historic Land Boundary Agreement.
These people had long been deprived of basic amenities, such as education and healthcare, due to the geographical oddities.
