Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Saturday said Bangladeshi citizens abroad will receive their new machine readable passports (MRPs) within a maximum of seven days after applying.
"The government will send the MRPs to Bangladesh embassies abroad within two to three days via FedEx for swift delivery," the home minister said.
Home Minister Kamal made the statement while addressing Passport Week at the Immigration and Passport Office in Agargaon.
The minister said the Department of Immigration and Passports has signed a contract with the Federal Express, a global courier service, for swift delivery of passports.

The director general of the Department of Immigration and Passports and the managing director of Federal Express signed the contract on behalf of their respective organisations.
Minister Kamal said Bangladeshi nationals abroad usually receive their MRPs in two to three months after submitting the applications, as the passports are sent via diplomatic channel. However, in light of the reports of harassment filed by the passport seekers, changes are being made.
He said the government has undertaken initiatives to eliminate the hassle and introduce online verification process for efficiency, reports UNB.
In addition, the home minister said the government has taken initiative to launch e-passport services to root out corruption in the passport providing service.
