The government has suspended the salaries and allowances of four school teachers over the incidents of influential individuals walking on human bridges of students during sports events in Chandpur and Jamalpur.
Of the four teachers, one is Chandpur’s Nilkamal Osmaniya High School Headmaster Mosharraf Hossain.
The Secondary and Higher Education Division issued an order in this regard on Sunday afternoon.
Joint Secretary Salma Jahan of the division told the Dhaka Tribune that the principles and physical education teachers of Nilkamal Osmaniya High school and Jamalpur’s Mahmudpur Bahumukhi High school had also been asked to explain why they should not be terminated permanently.
Haimchar Upazila Chairman Nur Hossain Patwari, also the upazila unit Awami League general secretary, walked over students who formed a “human bridge” during a sports event at Nilkamal Osmaniya High School on January 31.

He was later suspended from the party, after photos and video footage of the incident went viral on social media and were later reported in the media.
Abdul Kadir Gazi alias Ali Ahmed, a guardian, filed a case with Haimchar police under the Child Act against Nur Hossain, school managing committee President Humayun Patwari, Headmaster Mosharraf Hossain and two other members of the managing body.
Nur Hossain did not appear before the investigation committee formed by the government but apologised for his acts in writing. He, however, claimed that the students had forced him to walk on the human bridge.
