Rajshahi Metropolitan Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) Shabbir Ahmed Sarforaz was found dead in his Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) quarters.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police spokesman and Senior AC Iftekhar Alam said: "We recovered the body of AC Shabbir from RMP quarter around 9am on Saturday."
AC Shabbir’s father Obaidullah Haque was former police commissioner and former deputy inspector general of police (DIG) of Rajshahi Range. Shabbir was a 31st batch Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) cadre.
Police crime scene unit members investigated the scene on Saturday.
After primary investigation, Professor Anamul Haque of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital forensic department said AC Shabbir had tied the rope around his neck after which he pushed away the sofa he was sitting on, and dangled to death.
"Initially the death appears to be suicide since the door was locked from the inside.
"However, we cannot confirm anything before the autopsy," Prof Anamul added.
He said: "The RMP police commissioner has asked me arrive at the crime scene Saturday evening to do the inquest in front of the father of the deceased Obaidullah."
Senior AC Iftekhar said that the body is currently at RMP quarters, and will be sent for autopsy after Shabbir's father arrives in Rajshahi.
