A man and his adopted daughter died after being run over by a train in Gazipur’s Sreepur upazila on Saturday.
Their family members think the duo threw themselves before the speeding train in the morning due to psychological pressure.
Police identified the victims as Hazrat Ali, 45, and Ayesha Khatun, 8, hailing from Karnapur Chhitpara village.
The incident took place near Sreepur Railway Station.
Station Master Shahjahan Mia told the Dhaka Tribune that the due had been run over by Mymensingh-bound Teesta Express.
Hazrat Ali’s wife Halima Begum said that she learned about her husband and daughter’s death shortly after they had gone out for a walk.
“A long pending case put immense psychological pressure on my husband,” she said. “This may have driven him to kill himself.”
