AL delegation visits cycle affected areas in Bandarban, Rangamati

An Awami League delegation is on a two-day visit to the cyclone affected areas in Bandarban and Rangamati districts from today. The team, headed by AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader, is scheduled to arrive in Naikkhangchhari upazila of Bandarban around 8am. They will inspect the situation in Naikkhangchhari Sadar, Ghumdhum and Tumbru unions and distribute relief goods to the cyclone affected families throughout the day. AL Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Joint Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak, State Minister for CHT Affairs Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing, among others, will accompany Obaidul. The same team will reach Rangamati tomorrow morning and hand over cash support to the families of two people who were crushed under falling trees during the cyclone. The delegation will leave Rangamati for Dhaka tomorrow afternoon. Thousands of houses, education institutions, fruit orchards and rubber plantations were damaged in the storm in Naikkhangchhari upazila. Meanwhile, the government has allocated 50 tonnes of food grains and Tk90,000 for the affected people in Bandarban.
