
Seven people, including a dean at Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST), have been killed in two separate road accidents in Faridpur and Pabna.
Faridpur
Six people were killed and 15 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a microbus on Dhaka-Khulna highway at Hatghata area under Modhukhali upazila on Friday.
The deceased are Khairunnesa Begum, 45, Nazmul Gazi, 40, his wife Afifa Begum, 20, Karim Gazi, 47, driver Anisur Rahman, 29, and his nephew Jahid Hasan, 18.
Modhukhali police station Officer-in-Charge Md Ruhul Amin said the bus of "Shyamoli Paribahan" heading towards Dhaka from Benapole had collided head-on with a microbus in Hatghata area around 11am, leaving three of the microbus passengers dead on the spot.
Three others had succumbed to their injuries while under treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital later around midnight, he added.
Pabna
Rashed Kabir, dean of the Science Faculty at PUST, was killed as a passenger bus plunged into a roadside ditch on Dhaka-Pabna highway at Chakla area under Bera upazila early hours on Saturday.
Sathia police station Officer-in-Charge Abu Md Dilwar Hasain Inam said a bus of "Sarker Travels" had plunged into a roadside ditch after its driver lost control over the wheels at the early hours on Saturday, leaving 10 passengers injured.
Police and firefighters rescued the passengers and took the injured to Bera Sadar Hospital where doctors declared Rashed Kabir dead.
