Switzerland has decided to donate Tk10.2 crore (1.2 million Swiss francs) for the Rohingya refugees and the flood affected people in Bangladesh.
The donation will be made through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) Humanitarian Aid, said a press release.
From the contribution, around Tk8.5 crore (1 million Swiss francs) will be used to provide life-saving support and respond to the immediate needs for the Rohingya refugees who are currently residing in Bangladesh.
The priority support includes food security, shelter, water and sanitation.
Switzerland has been closely monitoring the humanitarian crisis, and therefore anticipates scaling up its humanitarian assistance to meet the emergency needs of the refugees.
The remaining money, around Tk1.7 crore (0.2 million Swiss francs), will be provided to support the flood affected people in Bangladesh.
This Swiss humanitarian assistance comes in response to the emergency appeal made by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and will be channelled through the Swiss Red Cross.
