International Organisation for Migration (IOM) Chief of Mission in Bangladesh Sarat Dash and IOM spokesperson Peppi K Siddiq called on State Minister of Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam on Tuesday to brief the relief situation in Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar.
“We have to appeal for more aid to the international communites. We need it immediately,” Sarat Dash said.
“We had earlier appealed for $77m in aid to assist the Rohingya people. With the number of new arrivals at around 300,000, $77m won't be enough to provide the assistance to the refugees. Moreover, that aid [$77m] has not been delivered yet,” Dash argues.
Quoting the state minister, Peppi said the government has urged them to speed up the whole process of relief work since the humanitarian situation in the camps is miserable.
