The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained seven Rohingya refugees from Hijdali Bazar of Satkhira's Kalaroa upazila on Tuesday. The detainees were trying to cross the Kalaroa border to enter India. The detainees are Parvez, 20; Saiful Islam, 27; his wife Shuktara, 19; Salim Ahmed, 28; his wife Asma Khatum, 23; his son Zakir Hussein, 2; and his eight-month-old daughter Mariam. Subedar of Satkhira-38 BGB and Hijaldi Border Observation Post (BOP) Omar Faruque confirmed the matter. He said: “Acting on a tip off, we raided the area and detained the seven. Later, in an interrogation, they revealed that they have recently fled the ongoing violent offensive of Myanmar army and crossed over to Bangladesh. However, they came to Kalaroa so that they could cross over to India in search of work.” The detainees are now being transferred to Kalaroa police station, Omar added. Kalaroa police station Officer-in-Charge Biplob Kumar Deb Nath said they have not received any information in this regard from the BGB.
