Bangladesh's High Commissioner to India Syed Muazzem Ali has said Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha can resume his duty once he is prepared for it after returning to Bangladesh.
He made the statement while talking to the journalists at the Foreign Correspondents' Club in Delhi on Monday.
Muazzem Ali said: “Once Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha returns after treatment and feels he is prepared to resume his duties, he can. I am sure about it.
“There will not be any problem if he wants to resume his duties tomorrow morning.”
While talking about Sinha, the high commissioner said: “I, as a civil servant, avoid two things. Firstly, I never make public comments about my in-laws because that would close the door to my house for me.
“Second, I try not to comment on courts and justices as it might lead to contempt of court and then I will have to visit the court every six months. I am scared of it.”

Talking about Sinha’s application to the president, he said: “He has been suffering from cancer from before and that is why he wanted to go to Australia for treatment. He needed long leave for that and the
President granted it.
“The thing is, if he returns cured or even if he is not fully cured but wishes to join work, then he will.”
Stating that he knows the chief justice personally, he said: “It is true that recently he [Sinha] has got into conflicts with the government over some issues but that does not matter, because I am sure the court will accept him whenever if wants to resume his duties.”
Muazzem Ali added saying the chief justice went on a leave for a specific period of time.
Talking about the way Sinha’s news was portrayed in Indian media, he said: “The matter has nothing to do with the bilateral relationship between Bangladesh and India. Insha Allah, we will be able to sort this problem properly.
“Our concern is to solve the problem of 550,000 Rohingya refugees.”
On October 14, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said the chief justice returning to assume his duties after his leave is a distant fantasy.

President Abdul Hamid listed the 11 major allegations, including money laundering, financial scam, corruptions and moral degradation, against the chief justice.
A notice to this effect, signed by Registrar General of Supreme Court Syed Aminul Islam, titled “Statement of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh regarding the written statement given by Honourable Chief Justice SK Sinha before he went abroad on leave,” was published on the Supreme Court’s website on Saturday.
The statement said that the written statement that Sinha supplied to journalists on Friday night before his departure was confusing and the Supreme Court had issued this statement to clarify the matter.
The chief justice left for Australia on October 13, issuing a statement to the press that he was not ill and had been embarrassed by the prime minister’s criticism against him.
