India-Bangladesh joint military combat exercise to begin from Nov 6

Indian and Bangladeshi armies will take part in an intensive combat exercise at India's Counter-Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School at Vairengte in Mizoram. "Exercise Sampriti" will be conducted from November 6 to 18, reports The Times of India. It is organised for conducting counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations in a semi-mountainous jungle terrain to bolster bilateral military ties. Sampriti will include a field training exercise at Vairengte, and a command post exercise at the Umroi cantonment in Meghalaya, an Indian officer said. A joint training capsule on anti-terror operations will also be held from November 13 to December 10 at Danapur Cantonment in Bihar. The capsule's main aim will to be train junior commanders of Bangladesh Army in effectively handling such operations, the officer added. He said through the exercise the Indian armed forces will be able to work towards Bangladesh military’s capacity building by seeking closer cooperation on the counter-terrorism front. Bangladesh and India have been holding direct military staff talks since 2009 to discuss the cooperation between the forces.
