Update : 08 Nov 2017, 01:18 AM
Bangladesh has been elected vice-president of the Conference of the States Parties to the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC). The Bangladesh embassy in Vienna made the disclosure in a press release on Tuesday after the country’s ambassador to Austria, Md Abu Zafar, was elected one of the three vice-presidents under the Asia Pacific Group. The press release said he will serve a two-year term representing Bangladesh before new officials are elected as VPs in November 2019. Abu Zafar is leading a team representing his country at the Seventh Session of the Conference of the States Parties (CoSP7) to the UNCAC, which began on Monday and will continue through the end of this week in Vienna. According to the UN news centre, over 1,600 participants are attending COSP7, which includes about 45 side events and exhibitions held on the margins of the conference to promote discussion on anti-corruption activities. The Convention was adopted in 2003 and covers five main areas: prevention, criminalisation and law enforcement measures, international cooperation, asset recovery, and technical assistance and information exchange. The article was first published on Bangla Tribune
