PM to meet family members of Chittagong stampede victims

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will meet the family members of the ten people who were killed in a stampede at a post-funeral feast commemorating former city mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury. She will visit late Awami League leader Mohidduin Chowdhury’s home around 3pm on Sunday to offer her condolences to the family. The prime minister will speak to the victim’s families there, Chittagong city Awami League Law Affairs Secretary Advocate Iftaker Saimul Chowdhury said. He said: “The prime minister does not have any scheduled meeting with the leaders of city Awami League.

“A small delegation from the Awami League might be present during the prime minister’s meeting at the house of former mayor Mohiuddin Chowdhury.” He said a list of five party leaders, including him, has been made. Saimul, however, said they are yet to get the security cards.

Chittagong City Awami League Vice-President Ibrahim Babul said: “Even though the prime minister does not have any scheduled meeting with the party leaders here but a small delegation might meet her at Mohiuddin Chowdhury’s house.” Ten people were killed and 14 others injured in a stampede at the memorial service of Mohiuddin Chowdhury on December 18.This article was first published on Bangla Tribune
