Amu: Load shedding almost zero because of quick rental system

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu said people are now getting electricity around the clock across the country as quick rental power plants have reduced load shedding to almost zero. "Even though there were many criticisms against the quick rental system, this initiative [by the government] has ensured power security for all," he said on Thursday. The minister made the above remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the "9th International Bangladesh Infrastructure Innovation and Development Expo and Dialogue-2018" at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the city, said a press release. Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA), Power Cell and ExpoNet Exhibition (Pvt) limited are jointly organizing the four-day expo and dialogue. Among others, Power Division Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus, Director General of Power Cell Mohammad Hossain, Managing Director of Dhaka Wasa Engineer Taqsem A Khan and ExpoNet Exhibition (Pvt) Limited Managing Director M Rashedul Hoaque also spoke during the ceremony. Amu said the government has taken different initiatives to increase power generation for ensuring electricity security of the country's people. He further said load shedding was an 18-hour affair before and now it barely happens, adding, “Around 16,000MW electricity is being generated every day in the country." The minister said the government follows “zero pollution” and “zero accident” policies for industrialization as it believes in environment friendly green industrialization. A total of 62 entrepreneurs from seven countries are taking part in the expo. They are exhibiting construction materials, equipments, energy saving products and technologies. The expo remains open for all from 10am to 8pm.
