Bangabandhu’s birth anniversary observed by Bangladesh missions abroad
Bangladesh’s diplomatic missions in New Delhi, Islamabad and Singapore on Saturday observed the 98th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children's Day. In Islamabad, members of the expatriate Bangladesh community and their families participated in a daylong program arranged on the Chancery premises of Bangladesh High Commission there, according to UNB. The day's programs started with the placing of a wreath at the portrait of Father of the Nation by High Commissioner Tarik Ahsan and other officials of the High Commission. This was followed by the cutting of a birthday-cake and reading out of messages released on this occasion by the president, prime minister, foreign minister and state minister for foreign affairs. A discussion session on the life and works of Bangabandhu was also held. After the discussion, a special munajat was offered seeking salvation and eternal peace of the soul of Bangabandhu and continuous peace, progress and prosperity of Bangladesh. Earlier, children took part in a drawing and essay writing competitions on the theme of Bangabandhu's 7th March speech. The High Commissioner distributed the prizes among the winners and participants of the competition during the ceremony. Later, a documentary on the life of the Father of the Nation was screened. In Singapore, Bangladesh High Commission organized numerous programs, marking Bangbandhu’s birth anniversary. The programs included reading out of messages from the president, prime minister and foreign minister, a discussion session on the childhood and glorious political career of Bangabandhu, recitation of poems, extempore speech and art completion for children of different age groups. Over 300 expatriate Bangladeshis, their families, and children from different schools participated in the events. Speakers at the discussion meeting highlighted the childhood and political career of Bangabandhu and recalled his invaluable contributions to the 1971 Liberation War. High Commissioner Md Mustafizur Rahman in his speech said: “This day has a great significance in our national life.” The independence of Bangladesh is earned through the sacrifice and relentless struggle of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he added. The high commissioner urged all to spread the spirit of patriotism and the philosophy of Bangabandhu among new generations so they can come forward to build "Sonar Bangla" as dreamt by Bangabandhu. Spouse of the High Commissioner Madam Tanzina Binte Alamgir distrivuted prizes among the winners of the competitions as well as to all children participated. Similarly, Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi held various programs marking Bangbandhu’s birthday and National Children's Day. Children read out messages from President Md Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali. Awami League Presidium member Dr Md Abdur Razzak, former Foreign Minister Dipu Moni and High Commissioner Syed Muazzem Ali spoke addressed the functions and recalled different aspects of life and achievements of Bangabandhu. Children of the mission’s officials participated in painting competitions, recitation of poems and storytelling focusing Bangladesh and Bangabandhu. Prizes were distributed among the winners by Tuhfa Zaman Ali, wife of the high commissioner. The audience watched a documentary on the life and achievements of the father of nation, titled "Bangabandhu Forever in Our Hearts.”
