Update : 25 Apr 2018, 12:54 AM
A bus service on a Bangladesh-India-Nepal route on a trial basis reached Banglabandha Immigration check-post on Tuesday. After completing immigration formalities, two buses with 43 passengers entered Indian route to Kathmandu. Bangladeshis will soon be able to travel to Nepal by road if the trial run of the proposed bus service proves successful with passengers eager to avoid the stress and expense of flying. A protocol for the new bus service will be signed by the four countries, India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Nepal. When fully implemented, the Bangladesh-Bhutan-India-Nepal (BBIN) motor vehicles agreement will open a new horizon for travellers in member countries. Initially the bus service will operate between Bangladesh, India, and Nepal, excluding Bhutan. The buses are expected to reach Kathmandu on April 26 after an overnight stay in Siliguri Sazzadur Rahman Sazzad/Dhaka TribuneThe Shyamoli buses started their journey from Dhaka on Monday and reached Rangpur the same night. The buses are expected to reach Kathmandu on April 26 after an overnight stay in Siliguri, India. Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) Chairman Fariduddin said: “If the four state bus services run regularly, it will improve the economy and have a positive effect on tourism.” “This trial run will identify problems that passengers may face, including visa procedures and customs,” he said. The buses will travel a distance of 1,104Km. Upon reaching the Banglabandha immigration check-post, the passengers were welcomed by Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Panchagarh, Zahirul Islam, Superintendent of Police, Md Giasuddin Ahmed, and other important government officials. Transport ministers of the four countries signed the agreement on behalf of their sides in Thimphu, Bhutan, on June 15, 2015. However, Bhutan’s parliament is yet to ratify the cross-border transportation agreement (BBIN-MVA).
