Update : 28 Apr 2018, 01:21 PM
A group of three trekkers, led by Mount Everest climber MA Mohit, is set to go on an expedition to scale the approximately 7,045 meter high Lhakpa Ri Peak of the Himalayas. Guest speakers at a press conference handed over the expedition flags to the mountaineers MA Mohit, Shayla Parvin Bithi and Kazi Bahlul Maznu on Friday. The team will leave Dhaka for Nepal on Sunday by plane and will start their 25-day expedition from Kyirong of Tibet on May 2. Lhakpa Ri (Xang Dong Feng), towering over Tibet at an elevation of 7,045 meters, divides the upper East Rongbuk glacier and upper Kharta glacier. “Physical weakness is a major problem in Bangladesh. If we can overcome it then we will be able to achieve more success in every aspect, especially in sports,” said Bishwo Shahitto Kendro Chairman Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed. “I wish all the best to the three Bangladeshi mountaineers who are going on the expedition to Lhakpa Riof the Himalayas” he added. Congratulating the mountaineers, economist and Power and Participation Research Centre Chairman Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman said: “It needs determination and hard work to become a mountaineer. “People of all ages should get the opportunity to go on expeditions to mountains,” he added. “We hope to achieve success in this mission. Our previous experiences will help us too,” said MA Mohit, the only Bangladeshi mountaineer who has scaled Mt Everest twice. Human rights activist Dr Hameeda Hossain, Paragon Agro Ltd chief operating officer Molla Mamun Monowar and Arla Foods Bangladesh Ltd deputy general manager Ahmed Kabir were present among others at the ceremony.
