The finance minister proposed an allocation of Tk4,261 crore for the Liberation War Affairs Ministry in FY2018-19.

The government has planned to provide Boishakhi and Victory Day allowances to freedom fighters from the next fiscal year.

"Boishakhi allowances and the Victory Day allowances will be provided to freedom fighters from the next fiscal year," said Finance Minister AMA Muhith while placing the national budget for FY2018-19 on Thursday.

He said the construction of Muktijoddha Complexes is underway at district and upazila levels across the country for the improvement of the socio-economic status of freedom fighters.

Of them, the construction of complexes for freedom fighters in 57 districts has already been completed.

"We've taken initiatives to provide free medical treatment to freedom fighters in all government hospitals and 16 specialized hospitals in the country," he added.

Under "the construction of homes for the landless and destitute or insolvent freedom fighters" project, the construction work on 2,852 units has been completed, and the construction of 119 more units is going on, he said.

A project titled “multi-storied building construction” has been undertaken for providing accommodation facilities to 8,000 insolvent freedom fighters.

The minister said a draft law titled "Bangladesh Muktijoddha Kalyan Trust Act, 2018" has been formulated for the welfare of all civil, military, martyred, and wounded freedom fighters through the 'Freedom Fighters Welfare Trust'.

He said the government has taken steps to build a memorial for the martyrs of the Allied Forces ('Mitra Bahini') during the Liberation War.

"In order to make our new generation familiar with the true history of Liberation War and instil the spirit of war in them, liberation war museums-cum libraries are being constructed in Muktijoddha Complex buildings in all districts and upazilas," the minister said.

He proposed an allocation of Tk4,261 crore for the Liberation War Affairs Ministry in FY2018-19.

This is Tk275 crore higher than that allocated in the outgoing fiscal 2017-18.
