Update : 24 Jul 2018, 12:33 PM

The country is experiencing monsoon rainfall, the Met Office says.

"The rain is likely to continue for four or five more days," Meteorologist Arif Hossain said.

Commuters are suffering due to the rain and many low-lying areas have become waterlogged.

The highest rainfall -- 142mm -- was recorded in Sitakunda in the last six hours.

“Due to active monsoon heavy (44-88 mm) to very heavy (less than 89 mm) rainfall with gusty wind is likely to occur at places over Chittagong, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet divisions during next 24hrs commencing at 11:00am today,” The Bangladesh Met office said in a heavy rainfall warning statement, issued Tuesday morning.

It added: “Due to very heavy rainfall landslides may occur at places over the hilly regions of Chittagong and Sylhet divisions.”
